Oakland Raiders Acknowledge Evan O'Dorney
As the Oakland Raider Organization believes in youth and believes in education, the Oakland Raiders team will honor Evan O’Dorney, who recently won the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Evan O’Dorney is a 13-year old resident of Bay Area and a home-schooled eighth grader of Danville, California. Evan won over 286 other contestants during the 80th annual event this week in Washington D.C. Evan O’Dorney correctly spelled serrefine, which is a noun that means a small forceps for clamping blood vessel. The competition was broadcast on ESPN. As the team of Oakland Raiders continues to be an inspiration for the youth, the organization salutes Evan as well as his family for his remarkable accomplishment. The Oakland Raiders is privileged to honor and to invite Evan O’Dorney and his family and to be guests of the Oakland Raiders at an upcoming game during the 2007 season.
Amy Trask, Oakland Raiders’ Chief Executive stated that, “The Raider Organization believes in youth and believes in education. We salute Evan and his family for his tremendous accomplishment and it is our pleasure and privilege to honor him and his family. We are committed to, and continue to expand, our Youth Initiatives --- both on game day and otherwise – and we look forward to hosting Evan and his friends and family this season.” Evan O’Dorney returned to his home in Danville, California to celebrate his inspiring success with his family, friends and neighbors after a week of travel and national recognition. To pursue his mathematical knowledge in looking forward to a day of becoming a teacher or a researcher are Evan O’Dorney’s dreams and goals. “Feeling satisfaction and a conclusion to all my studying and knowing that I don’t have to study anymore,” stated Evan as the best thing about winning the National Spelling Bee.
Evan O’Dorney will continue with his math studies and plans on taking a short break from studying his vocabulary. Evan O’Dorney will take part in the Math Olympiad Program, MOP (with the objective of selecting six students to represent United States in the International Mathematical Olympiad) that is a math training and selection program for high school students as he travels to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition to Evan O’Dorney’s success, his father named Michael, who is a train operator in the Bay Area and his mother who is in charge with his home schooling, won $35,000 cash, a $5,000 scholarship, a $2,500 savings bond and a set of reference works for his taking the grand prize.
The Oakland Raiders will continue to inspire and support youth as well as the youngsters. The Oakland Raiders organization believes in the outstanding and exceptional potentials of these people. In addition, the Oakland Raiders also supports and salutes the youth and youngsters when it comes to education, as the team believes in the importance of youth and education.
