Raiders in the Planet Green

The Oakland Raiders LBs Kirk Morrison as well as Thomas Howard and RB Justin Fargas will appear on Battleground Earth, a reality show on the Discovery Network’s new channel - Planet Green. The new channel is set to launch June 4.

The show follows recording artists Ludacris and Tommy Lee from city to city, where the two strive to make the residents of each locale more environmentally aware. The Oakland segment was filmed at Josie De La Cruz Park. The themes for the Oakland production concentrated on recycling and celebrated the re-surfacing of the park, for children to play football. “The Discovery Channel and Planet Green have teamed up with Ludacris and Tommy Lee, and are going to communities, cleaning up parks so kids can come out and play,” said Howard. “This time, they turned one of Oakland’s parks into an astro-turf field.”

Morrison, an Oakland native, was happy to see the improvements to the park. “It was just good to see that the kids in Oakland have a nice, safe place to play,” said Morrison. “It looks like a nice field and it’s going to be used well.”

In the first scene of the show, Ludacris and his friends challenged a group of Tommy Lee’s cohorts to a game of two-hand touch. Later in the program, the Raider players jogged onto the field as a surprise for the local fans who where watching the event. Rapper Too Short, who was emceeing the event, introduced Morrison, Howard and Fargas to the crowd. “It was great giving back to the community, being a home-grown kid,” said Morrison. “Every time I have an opportunity to give back to Oakland, I definitely want to show my support as much as possible.”

Once the Oakland Raiders players finished shooting the scenes in which they interacted with Tommy Lee and Ludacris, they met local fans and signed autographs for the kids. “It was a positive scene, a lot of folks from Oakland came out. It was good to see a lot of people (and stars) take time out of their lives to do something good for the community,” said Howard. “It was an electric scene, the community of Oakland benefited from it and so did we. We all had a good time, meeting Tommy Lee and Ludacris face to face.”

The team of Oakland Raiders’ fame is due to their hard work and determination in the field of their sports. The team will continue to do their best and participate on events and/or community projects as a form of gratitude and appreciation to the loyalty of their fans.
