Tony Dungy was renowned for his defensive acumen, and immediately started to bolster the team’s defense. Under the guidance of coach Dungy, the Colts was able to post an impressive 2005 off season by winning their first 13 games, and was expected by many to advance to the Super Bowl. However, the Colts were upset by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Divisional playoffs, and the Colts finished the season with a record of 12-4.

For nearly 40 years, The Indianapolis Colts called Baltimore home. During that time, with players such as Johnny Unitas and coaches such as Don Shula, the Colts enjoy great success and fame. The team won two World Championships and the 1971 Super Bowl. We offer great Indianapolis Colts Tickets online. After starting the 2005 season 13-0 their were thoughts of an unbeaten campaign and Super Bowl championship for the Indianapolis Colts, but the San Diego Chargers upset the Colts in the 14th game of the season and the team ended the year at 14-2 which was still the best record in the NFL and had home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, and the Indianapolis Colts were still heavily favored to advance to the title game, but the Pittsburgh Steelers ended the hopes and dreams of the Indianapolis Colts by defeating them 21-18 in the divisional playoffs at the RCA Dome.
In all the season was still a major success and something the Indianapolis Colts can build on and use as fuel for the '06 campaign, the roster is loaded with talent and speed especially on offense where NFL MVP QB Peyton Manning sets the tone and has several weapons at his disposal which makes the unit the league's best, defensively the Colts improved dramatically as the players are grasping head coach Tony Dungy's cover 2 scheme and executing it superbly and have gone from a below average defense to an above average unit, their were two significant defections from the roster as longtime star RB Edgerrin James signed with the Arizona Cardinals and PK Mike Vanderjagt who is one of the NFL's most accurate kickers was signed by the Dallas Cowboys, but the Indianapolis Colts will be one of the elite teams in the league and should dominate the AFC South. The defensive line got a big boost from DT Corey Simon who was obtained from the Philadelphia Eagles last off-season as he provided the strength and bulk to neutralize opponents power run schemes, and with first team all-pro DE Dwight Freeney coming off the edge this unit is very good and versatile with the potential to get even better. Cato June leads a group of linebackers who are fast and aggressive, ILB Gary Brackett was superb in '05 as he was sturdy enough to defense the run and fast enough to drop into coverage and be a difference maker against the pass, this maybe the fastest linebacking unit in the NFL and is an all around group who can do it all. FS Bob Sanders earned his first pro bowl berth last season and is the leader of the secondary, he is a ferocious tackler who can also cover top flight tight ends and receivers, SS Mike Doss is also a physical hitter with a nose for the ball making the safety tandem for the Indianapolis Colts one of the game's best, Jason David and Nick Harper are the corners with second year man CB Marlin Jackson being in the mix, this unit is young and rapidly improving and will be one of the strengths of an up and coming defense. When you think of offense in the National Football League you think of quarterback Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, Manning is simply the best signal caller in the NFL and a surefire first ballot Hall of Fame inductee.
The nine year veteran threw for 28 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions good enough for a 104.1 rating and his second straight most valuable player award, Jim Sorgi is the backup and a good one, with Shaun King who was once a starter for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers being the third team passer, overall this unit is grade A. With Edgerrin James leaving via free agency the Indianapolis Colts used their first round draft choice on RB Joseph Addai of LSU who has terrific speed and hands that will help in the passing game, he should be able to step in and be a standout right away, if Addai needs seasoning veteran RB Dominic Rhodes is capable of contributing in a big way with his quickness with his only weakness being his lack of top end speed, diminutive RB James Mungro has had some big games in the past when James was injured and adds depth to the position. Wide Receiver is a position of major strength as all-pro WR Marvin Harrison leads a group deep in talent Harrison may the NFL's top wideout with his tricky hands and precise route running, WR Reggie Wayne is also an elite pass catcher that can hurt an opponent long or short, and would be the feature receiver on just about any other team in the National Football League, WR Brandon Stokley is yet another sure-handed speedster that is capable of burning a defense, this unit is marvelous and will gives opposing secondaries fits all season long, tight end Dallas Clark is terrific and a tremendous weapon in the red zone, he too is Pro Bowl material. Although Vanderjagt was unable to be retained, PK Adam Vinatieri was plucked from the New England Patriots and is not much of a drop-off, Hunter Smith is the punter and will not be needed much due to the fact the offense of the Indianapolis offense is rarely stopped. Look for the Indianapolis Colts to win the AFC South and be in the running for a Super Bowl berth as the defense continues to get better and the offense overwhelms foes once again, 12 to 14 victories is a lock.....Great moment in team history....In 1999 after back-to-back 3-13 season the Indianapolis Colts rebounded to go 13-3 to win the AFC East and post the biggest turnaround in NFL history.
