January,03,2010 Invesco Field at Mile High (Football) The Kansas City Chiefs were originally known as the Dallas Texans, a club that was founded by Lamar Hunt in 1960. The team moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs in 1963 and then joined the NFL. The franchise became the flagship team of the American Football League and they had the most playoff appearances for an AFL team, tied with Oakland , the most AFL Championships (3), and they also had the most Super Bowl appearances, playing in the first Super Bowl, and in the last to be played between League champions. As the Chiefs, under the guidance of Hall of Famer coach Hank Stram and with quarterback Len Dawson at the helm, the team played in the first Super Bowl and lost to Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers. Known for a high powered offense and blazing defense, Hank Stram's ground-breaking play-calling went on to revolutionize the game. Stram used audibles and line changes that would confuse opponents on the field, which gave the Chiefs the advantage. The Chiefs went on to win 43 games between 1966 and 1969.
The 2008 season will be difficult for the Kansas City Chiefs. They struggled through the 2007 season with a record of 4-12 finish. Despite the fact that the Chiefs added a lot of young talent through the draft it remains to be seen if it will have an immediate effect on their future. They did lose defensive end Jared Allen which was a big blow to the team. Expectations are high, however, for second-round cornerback Brandon Flowers from Virginia Tech and third-round running back Jamaal Charles from Texas . For the Chiefs to find success in 2008 their rookies must deliver and quarterback Brandon Croyle needs to take a step forward. For that to happen, however, the offensive line will have to do a much better job blocking the run and pass because last year the Chiefs were near the bottom of the league in yards rushing. Even though there is a lot of new talent on the team the Chiefs might just surprise some people.
