Chargers Broncos Face off Dec 14th Qualcomm Stadium
On their way to a surprise 9-7 finish and AFC Wild Card berth the San Diego Chargers defeated the Denver Broncos in Denver, the only team to defeat the Broncos at Invesco Field during the 2013 season. The Chargers 27-20 victory was a further indication of the success of the new regime in San Diego, led by General Manager Tom Telesco and Head Coach Mike McCoy. The Broncos would go on to defeat the Chargers in a return matchup at Invesco in the second round of the playoffs by a 24-17 score, ending the Chargers late season five-game winning streak that included an opening round playoff victory in Cincinnati.
Last season Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos offense nearly re-wrote the NFL record book. Manning, just two years removed from potential career ending neck surgery, passed for 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns in the greatest individual quarterback year in league history. Manning's remarkable season eventually came to a sudden halt in the Super Bowl, when the Broncos were blown out by the Seahawks. After several key additions on the defensive side of the football, including All Pro safety TJ Ward and All Pro defensive end DeMarcus Ware, the Broncos are poised to make another run at the Super Bowl.
They'll face tough competition from what should be an improved Chargers team. GM Tom Telesco was able to keep the Chargers core together while adding key depth at important positions like cornerback, running back and the offensive line. San Diego will travel to Denver on October 23 with another chance to knock off the defending AFC Champions at Invesco Field. The Broncos will make the return trip to San Diego in the third to last game of the season, Sunday December 14th in a game that could have major playoff implications.
