More on the Colts and 49ers
Yet another early season 49ers game with some interesting storylines. The national narrative coming into the game will be the return of Andrew Luck to the Bay Area where he starred for the Stanford Cardinal under current 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

Luck led the Colts to several come from behind victories last season as the Colts went from a two win season to the playoffs. The other fascinating ongoing Colts story is the continued recovery of Head Coach Chuck Pagano who missed a large portion of the 2012 season while suffering from leukemia. The "Chuckstrong" story was truly inspirational and was a major rallying point for the Colts last year. Even with the MVP season that Peyton Manning had in Denver last year the outstanding rookie year that Luck had more than justified the decision by Colts owner Jim Irsay to move on from the Colts Hall of Fame quarterback.

The Colts selected Bjoern Werner, a German national and defensive end from Florida State. Werner is an excellent pass rusher/run stopping combo and should provide a nice replacement for Dwight Freeney. Elite 4-3 defensive ends are hard to come by and Werner has the ability to be one. He has a tireless motor and quickly will become a crowd favorite in Indy. The Colts were overmatched on defense last season and will need to shore up the unit to compete with the elite teams in the AFC. The Colts made some interesting free agent moves in acquiring LaRon Landry, Ricky Jean Francois and Erik Walden. Many pundits panned the contract they gave Walden and Landry is a serviceable safety at best at this point in his career. Francois is a compelling prospect and should help the line depth. They Colts also resigned Darius Butler to play corner. Butler will either start opposite Vontae Davis, or backup Davis at corner. By:Chris Michaels
