A Brief History on the NCAA
The NCAA, or National Collegiate Athletic Association, was founded in 1906. There are over 1,200 schools that make up the NCAA. When the NCAA was founded, it served a need for safer rules and regulations the curve the high amount of injuries and even deaths related to college football. The NCAA now represents both men's and women's sporting events, and consists of basketball and football primarily, and has twenty other sports as well.
College football, college basketball, and many of the other sports represented by the NCAA, existed long before steps were taken to form the NCAA. College football has existed in the United States for over 130 year. The first game ever recorded took place November 6, 1869 between Princeton and Rutgers . No officials were involved and each team had 25 players. A soccer-type of ball was use and the field was only 120 years by 75 yards wide.
