A Brief Information about Sylvania 300 NASCAR Racing
The Sylvania 300 is a NASCAR Nextel Cup stock car race held at the New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire.
The Sylvania 300 has traditionally been held in mid-September; however, the race has been rescheduled once in its history. Originally scheduled to run on September 16, 2001, it was postponed due to the September 11, 2001 attacks. Not wanting to cancel the event outright, NASCAR decided to reschedule the race to the next available date, November 23, 2001, the day after Thanksgiving.
The Sylvania 300 also has the distinction of being the only Nextel Cup race outside of Daytona and Talladega to run a restrictor plate race since the adoption of the current 358 cubic inch formula because of fatal crashes in the Busch Series and NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.
Ryan Newman picked a good time to grab his first win of the season taking the checkered flag in the last Sylvania 300. Newman, who barely squeezed into the chase for the championship, got off to a fast start in NASCAR's 10-race playoff Sunday by out dueling point’s leader Tony Stewart down the stretch.
Stewart, who started from the pole, dominated through much of the race, leading 173 of the 300 laps in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. However, Newman won a late battle with Stewart, passing him on lap 199 and holding the top spot by two car-lengths.
Following the final pit stops by the leaders, Newman found himself just ahead of Stewart when the green flag waved with 16 laps to go after the last of 10 caution flags.
