A Brief Information about Chevy Rock and Roll 400 NASCAR Racing
The Chevy Rock and Roll 400 is a NASCAR Nextel Cup stock car race held at the Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. Starting in 2004, the race served as the last race in NASCAR's "regular season" as the top ten point earning drivers and their teams held a playoff to determine the NEXTEL Cup champion.
In the Chevy Rock and Roll 400 race in the 2005 NASCAR Nextel Cup series, Team Roush came away finishing first, second, and 3rd place.
The "Drive for Five" is alive, but not for Jeff Gordon. Instead, it is Carl Edwards, the surprise Nextel Cup title contender who gave car owner Jack Roush five chances to win the Chase for the championship as he placed in the top 10 in the standings for the Nextel Cup Championship with a solid finish in the Chevy Rock and Roll 400.
The second year of NASCAR's 10-race, playoff-style finish featured five Roush Racing cars in its 10-driver field, including winner Kurt Busch of the Chevy Rock and Roll 400, after Edwards and Matt Kenseth locked up two of the final spots with solid runs at Richmond International Raceway.
The season was just beginning for Team Roush, who had a 50 percent chance to win his third consecutive Cup title because of the finish at the Chevy Rock and Roll 400. The team headed into the Chase with momentum after Busch won the race and was followed by Kenseth and Greg Biffle. It gave Roush a sweep of the top three, the first team to do so since 1997.
"I'm sure Jack is pretty happy right now," Kenseth said. "He gives us everything we need to run up front."
The Roush contingent was led by Busch, the defending Nextel Cup champion, Biffle, Mark Martin, and Edwards, the shock of the group.
