A Brief Information about Banquet 400 NASCAR Racing
The Kansas Speedway began with an idea from the International Speedway business in 1996 as the company explored options to build a speedway in the midwest. The search was narrowed to the Kansas City area by the beginning of 1997 and on August 6, 1997, the choice was made to build the speedway outside of Kansas City, Kansas where many races came to play such as the Banquet 400.
Building began on May 25, 1999 and tickets went on sale July 28, 1999. General Tickets went on sale world-wide on August 21, 2000, for the first season's Banquet 400 races. Access to the speedway is unmatched in the racing industry. Kansas Speedway is adjacent to two interstate highways and an excellent state and local roadway network. Additionally, the Banquet 400 roadway infrastructure constructed to move traffic in, out and around the facility includes over 55 - lane miles of roadway.
In the last Banquet 400, driver Mark Martin bounced back from a costly crash with a dominating victory at Kansas Speedway. But to get the 35th victory of his career, Martin had to hold off his teammates. A lot of them.
Martin and teammate Greg Biffle led Roush Racing's sweep of the top three spots, and Roush cars took four of the top five. The Banquet 400 was Martin's first win since winning in Dover 2004.
But the last laugh might belong to Tony Stewart, who finished fourth and extended his chase lead from four points to 75. It was Stewart's 15th top 10-finish in the last 16 races.
Biffle, another of the 10 drivers in the 10-race chase, passed Stewart for second place 30 laps from the end of the 267-lap Banquet 400 and went after Martin, cutting a lead of about 20 car-lengths to less than half of that. Time ran out for Biffle though as Martin eventually took the checkered flag.
