WWE SummerSlam 2013 - Los Angeles' Staple Center:
WWE SummerSlam comes to us from Los Angeles' Staples Center on Sunday night August 18, 2013. This will be the 4th consecutive SummerSlam Pay Per View at the 20,000 capacity multi-purpose sports arena in Downtown Los Angeles.
Last year's SummerSlam saw Brock Lesnar make Triple H tap out, possibly ending his career. Interestingly enough, now a year later, Triple H's career, once again, hangs in the balance following his recent battle with Brock Lesnar.
This year's SummerSlam could feature Brock Lesnar in the Main Event, but this time it may be against another Paul Heyman guy - CM Punk. CM Punk recently made his in ring return at WWE Payback against Chris Jericho. With the way things unfolding in CM Punk's town of Chicago that night, it's clear that CM Punk is on a quest for another WWE Title reign. To get there, he'll have to go through Brock Lesnar.
Another possible opponent for the straight edge superstar could be Dolph Ziggler. While I think it's too soon to take the belt off of Ziggler, a match between these two great workers could be a classic.
Ryback is expected to battle John Cena one on one for the WWE Championship. Although Ryback's heel turn has gotten him alot of heat, it's expected that John Cena come out of SummerSlam with a successful title defense. In fact, I expect Cena to hold the title for a very long time - possibly until WrestleMania.
Will WWE SummerSlam 2013 live up to its hype? I think so. Vince McMahon has been putting intense pressure on the writing team to put together better shows as of late. With several long time employees in creative recently getting the pink slip, the current staff is certainly working harder than ever to get over believable storylines and put on good shows.
However, the fact remains that what the wrestlers do in the ring is what matters match. The WWE has a great talent pool available for this year's SummerSlam. With CM Punk back, Dolph Ziggler with the belt, Daniel Bryan as over as he's ever been and Curt Axel on the rise, the WWE has a chance to put together a really memorable SummerSlam 2013.
Curtis "Why Can't They Just Name Me Joe Hennig" Axel has a chance to really step up on this card. Supported by Paul Heyman as his manager, Curt Axel may have actually overcome the 3 years of being buried by the WWE as Michael McGillicutty. Hennig - er, Axel is a very good worker. But if he's given a good opponent to work with, he can possibly have a 5 star match that can elevate him.
Daniel Bryan, ever since he's started saying "Yes!" again is as over as he's ever been. Recently, he was able to have a great match with Ryback - something that's not easy to do. With his excellent work rate and top notch ring psychology, Bryan was able to keep the crowd fully into the match. Hopefully, at SummerSlam, he works with someone other than Kane.
Dolph Ziggler is another one to watch for at this year's SummerSlam. Last year, Ziggler lost to Chris Jericho with Vickie in his corner. One year later, Ziggler is now the World Champion with a bodyguard and someone who looks a lot better than Vickie. Many have been waiting for a face turn, this could be the night.
SummerSlam 2013 has the potential to be one of the best Pay Per Views of the year. With new Superstars on the rise and a many of the young wrestlers starting to perform to their potential we could see one of the best WWE events in a long time.
