Madonna Biography

The day of her forty-seventh birthday, Madonna was thrown by a horse while riding at her English country home, Ashcombe House. She was admitted to a hospital with four cracked ribs, a broken collar bone, a broken scapula (in two places) and a broken knuckle.[12] She was released later that day.

Later in 2005, she released her 10th studio album Confessions on a Dance Floor which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, selling 350,606 copies in its first week. It also debuted at #1 in 40 different countries and shipped over 3 million copies in the first week of its release. Peaking at #1 in as many countries as it did, Confessions on a Dance Floor set a new record previously held by The Beatles. Confessions was produced by Madonna, Stuart Price, and a host of others including Mirwais Ahmadzai and Bloodshy & Avant. The album received better critical reviews than any of Madonna's albums since 1998's Ray of Light and cemented her title as the best-selling female artist worldwide.

The first single, Hung Up, peaked at #1 in 41 countries and became No.1 for a record 15 weeks on the United World Charts. The track features a sample of the popular ABBA song "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme (A Man After Midnight)". The second single, titled "Sorry", entered the UK top 40 at #1. It has also hit #1 in Italy, Spain and Greece and reached the top ten in most other countries.

Madonna also released her second documentary, titled I'm Going To Tell You A Secret, which had been filmed during her 2004 Re-Invention world tour. She opened the MTV Europe Music Awards 2005 and the 2006 Grammy Awards with Gorillaz. Madonna also announced she would tour the world in the summer of 2006.

Madonna was nominated for five Australian MTV AVMAs and one MTV Asia Award. She is lending her voice to the big budget (approximately 80 million dollars) 2006 animated film Arthur and the Minimoys. Madonna provides the voice of Princess Selenia. The film, directed by Luc Besson, is expected to be released in December 2006.
