Enrique Iglesias Concert Information: Enrique Iglesias was born May 8, 1975 in Madrid , Spain . The prodigy son of famed Latin singer, Julio Iglesias and magazine journalist Isabel Preysler, Enrique Iglesias surprisingly earned his stripes in music on his own. He changed his name to Enrique Martinez, told labels he was an unknown from Guatemala and borrowed money from the family nanny to produce his demo. He got his break into music in the 1990's after being signed to Mexican label Fonovisa. It wasn't long before Enrique was on his way to Toronto to being recording his first album.
Enrique's personal life is one only of fairy tales; his grandfather was a famed gynecologist, the youngest in Spain at one point, and was responsible for much activism in fertility clinics and the public health system and helped to found the Madrid Maternity Clinic, becoming in charge of the sterility, infertility, and family planning. Julio Iglesias Sr. was once kidnapped in 1985 for two weeks by the terrorist group, ETA. Enrique's father, Julio Iglesias, stumbled into singing after a car accident that threatened his ability to ever walk again. He learned guitar to pass the time while sick. Enrique Iglesias' family history is a bit of a day-time soap opera. His father, a widely-known philanderer, has seven children, the five youngest of which were born after Enrique was an adult. Then, as if to complete the cycle, Enrique's grandfather had two more children, one while alive and the other following his death, when Enrique was already thirty-two.
Today Enrique Iglesias remains one of the most popular artists on the Latin American market. Enrique Iglesias has sold over sixty million albums worldwide and has five Billboard Hot 100 singles, including two #1's. He holds the record in No. 1 Spanish singles, checking in at twenty-two thus far. Enrique Iglesias has had eight No. 1 songs on Billboard Dance Charts, tying him as the No. 1 male artist with Michael Jackson. All in all Iglesias has had fifty-two No.1 songs across Billboard charts.
