Santa Barbara Bowl Facts and Information
Built in 1936, the Santa Barbara Bowl adds to Santa Barbara 's unique history. Originally equipped with a wooden stage that was set to revolve, its intent was to host Fiesta events, such as the "Romantic California Pageant." However, a flood in 1939 destroyed the stage, and so a concrete stage was set in its place.
This outdoor amphitheater stages events annually between the spring and fall seasons. It has hosted some of the most exciting and notable performances on the musical circuit. With a capacity of 4,562 seats, the steep slope of the bowl provides perfect views and a resonating sound quality.
In 2002, a $22 million restoration and renovation project was set in motion that quickly replaced the old stage, which was breaking and falling apart, added new seats, flood facilities and more. However, the Santa Barbara Bowl commission is still $12 million shy of its total budgeting needs, and so much of the work has yet to be completed.
Set in a natural, outdoor location, the Santa Barbara Bowl makes for a beautiful and cozy listening experience. One can imagine years past where Radiohead sold out its seats, lyrical sweetness echoing off the amphitheater walls, or the melodic harmonies of Jack Johnson and Ben Harper singing High Tide or Low Tide.
No matter what music or theater you love; reggae, country, classical, rock, jazz, blues, and more, the Santa Barbara County Bowl hosts them all. Get your tickets to an event today!
