USC Trojans make their way into the Rose Bowl in 2010
Yet again, the USC Trojans made their way into the
Rose Bowl this year, a complete shock to all. Never saw this coming, oh wait, everyone except
UCLA Bruinsnew coach Rick Neuheisel did. He was probably still in shock that he wasn't cast for the next Surreal Life.
Even though USC has there once again declared place in the Rose Bowl, the fans are not as excited as they used to be about their team facing off against Illinois when usually Trojan fans will try and pay their way to the bench no matter what bowl or stadium their team is playing. But the fact of the matter is no matter how many do or do not show up to see the Trojans play the
Rose Bowl, everyone is undeniably cheering for a playoff.
As for the players themselves, they are rooting for it as well and are pretty confused as to why it is not in the works and they love ending up at the Rose Bowl like clockwork but, "It would be really exciting to be a part of that process. Each year that we're been in this, we felt like we would like that opportunity. Why we don't have it, I don't know. I don't know those rules and issues and all that. I don't really care about them. That's the way we would like to do it." As Trojan Coach Pete Carroll puts it. Either way, they are pumped about facing off against underdog Illinois in the Rose Bowl and not discounting that.
As for Illinois, who are tallying in at 9 wins and 3 losses this season, they know it is an uneven matchup putting them against USC in the Rose Bowl. Even though, they are nonetheless excited about the opportunity they have been given to be in the Rose Bowl for the first time in 24 years. Needless to say Illinois is a little more Rose Bowl star struck, if you will, then the all-too accustomed to the drill Trojans who are calling this their 32nd Rose Bowl.
But in reality, USC should be anything but discredited for all of their hard work and all they have been through to get to the point where they pretty much go handholding with the Rose Bowl. Compared to their history, this in itself has become humorous, but in itself is pretty remarkable and admirable, just easy to poke a joke at then congratulate. Congratulations on getting to the Rose Bowl USC, we never saw it coming!
