Bowl Game Viewership
Just when everyone thought ratings were being sadly displaced towards reality television programs, the
Rose Bowl game between the University of Illinois and
USC Trojans seemed to captive all with 12 million tubes glued on the Rose Bowl game. It was the second highest rated viewing bowl, only second to the national championships between Ohio State and Louisiana State.
Not far off from these hits, with the national game gaining a bit on the
Rose Bowl with 16 million viewers was the Capital One Bowl which brought in 10 million viewers. Overall, it was these three, the Rose Bowl, Capital One Bowl, and the BCS national championship game that gave the Big Ten Conference a run for its popularity in the top three viewed slots.
Even though the Rose Bowl led shortly after the national championship, it was probably because most of the Illinois fans were at the game. The
Rose Bowl held the largest turnout in ticket sales over all for the other bowl games and championships with a turnout of 93,923.
