Rose Bowl Background and History:
Since it first broke ground in 1921, the Pasadena Rose Bowl has been host to many memorable sporting and entertainment events. It came about as a matter of necessity when organizers of the now infamous Tournament of Roses New Years Parade needed a stadium that was adequate for larger crowds.
Modeled after the Yale Bowl, Myron Hunt spent a year finishing its construction. In celebration of its completion, Cal Bears won against the USC Trojans 12-0. Cal declined the Rose Bowl Game invitation, and USC went in their place.
The Rose Bowl Stadium also goes y the "Tournament of Roses Stadium" or the "Tournament of Roses Bowl". Even though technically it's been simply the Rose Bowl since 1923, fans today still refer back to its various nicknames before being officially named.
Today the Rose Bowl continues to host the Rose Bowl game and the Tournament of Roses, as well as being home to the UCLA Bruins since 1982. Regular Rose Bowl swap meets and flea markets are held there where you are sure to find plenty of hidden treasures, as well as large concerts and music venues.
