Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
This is an older stage production that began in the 1970s and expanded quickly. The concept of the story relates to the "coat of many colors" garment that was worn by Joseph in the Book of Genesis. In case you don't know about Joseph, he is his father's favorite son and it is foreseen that he has a bright future. This causes his brothers to get jealous and so they sell Joseph into slavery in Egypt. It is there that Joseph goes through a bunch of adventures in order to test his true inner strength.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat usually ends up getting remade every decade. There are also numerous school productions and amateur theater groups that put on productions of this play as well. On a worldwide level, it has become a tour production in the United Kingdom and United States. The musical lyrics were written by Tim Rice and the music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. There are so many memorable songs in this musical, like Any Dream Will Do, Those Canaan Days and Close Every Door. Since this production is likely familiar to older audiences that are theater enthusiasts, then they will certainly enjoy this updated production. It is currently performed around the world and audiences still love the excitement and energy that it gives off. The musical styles are a mix of country western, calypso, pop and rock 'n' roll. Even if you are not a religious person that appreciates the story of Joseph in the Book of Genesis, that is okay because it is still a fun production to go see. The vibrant music and adventurous storyline will be sure to keep you entertained.
What is really captivating about the show is that there is very little dialogue spoken throughout the entire play. Instead, all of the character dialogue is spoken through song lyrics. This kind of gives it a family friendly feeling, which has universal style themes and music. You won't really care so much that there is a lack of regular character interaction because the musical part is far more interesting. After all, isn't that the fun of going to the theater in the first place? If you are someone that prefers characters just talking to each other than you should look somewhere else. If you are someone that just wants to sit back and have a good time with your family, then take them to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. You surely won't be disappointed.
