Pantages Theater Tickets Facts and Information
Like so many historical landmarks in California , the Pantages Theater has graced the history books of Los Angeles for almost a century. Since its grand opening on June 4, 1930, it has been the home to award winning plays, musicals, live events, films, and television shows.
Located in the heart of Hollywood , California , the Pantages Theater is currently owned and operated by the prestigious Nederlander Organization. With its Art Deco architecture and a capacity of 2,703 seats, the theater receives thousands of visitors each year. Complete with orchestra and mezzanine levels, the Orchestra level being made up of 36 rows, and the Mezzanine level consisting of 15 rows; each level is broken into five divisions. The Pantages Theatre seating provides maximum comfort for the audience by having almost half of its space designed specifically for public areas, restrooms, lobbies and lounges. The theater also offers wheelchair-accessible seating in the Orchestra level
Converted from a stage theater to a movie theater in 1932, just two years after it's Hollywood debut, the Pantages Theater was obtained by aeronautical extraordinaire, Howard Hughes in 1949, chosen to be the crowning gemstone of his nationwide Pantages Theater movie chain, RKO pictures. It soon became the place to see films. Hughes installed a huge screen and put his office on the second floor. In 1954, Hughes sold all of his stock in RKO, the seeming beginning of the end to his path into total and complete withdrawal from society. In 1967, Pacific Theaters bought the Los Angeles Pantages Theater, which at this time was in desperate need of a revival.
For ten years, Pacific Theaters struggled to fill the then 1,182 seat movie theater. Unable to fill its seats for motion pictures, Pacific teamed up with the Nederlander Organization to convert the Pantages Theater back to its original live theater setting. In a collaborative effort with the Nederlander Corporation, Pacific Theaters completely renovated the interior; an undertaking that involved cleaning and repairing the original artesian architecture and design that gave elegance and refinements to its walls, ceilings, and floors. Subsequently, the Pantages Theater was restored to its previous splendor (and seating capacity of 2700) so that once again it could host prime-rate stage theater on the level of Broadway touring companies. After its renovations were complete, the Pantages Theater kicked off its re-emergence as a live-theater stage with the production of Man from La Mancha .
Today the Pantages' reputation as a leading Hollywood theatre event location holds true as it has had the five highest-grossing weeks in L.A. 's theatrical history. It is also a much-preferred location for TV shows, movies, and music videos. The Theater has recently hosted large-scale production musical, Disney's Lion King, which ran for over two years, and is currently home to the Los Angeles Broadway production, musical sensation 'Wicked.' In addition to musicals, the Pantages has hosted rock concerts for bands such as the Foo Fighters, and, before her English crossover, Columbia 's Grammy award winning singer-songwriter Shakira performed her first show in the United States ever there.
The Pantages Theatre is a venue that everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. It's rich history and stunning architecture relates us to an era in Hollywood when movie stars were still mysterious and glamorous and chivalry was alive. Tickets to this venue have made for markedly profitable sales over the past and present decades. Join the masses of people who flock to this venue each year. Get your Pantages Theater tickets today!
