Orange County Performing Arts Center - Segerstrom Hall Facts and Information

Since September 29, 1986, the Segerstrom Hall has been considered one of the most ground-breaking and technically sophisticated performing arts Halls in the U.S. Zubin Mehta conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Funded completely by volunteers and trustees, the Hall was completed at a final cost of $73.8 million.

As the first of five venues standing today that make up the Orange Country Performing Arts Center , the Hall opened finally 25 years after the Philharmonic Society of Orange County was founded. For most of that time, the Philharmonic was looking for a place to call their permanent home.

Equipped with three acoustical adjustable canopies, they function much in the same way curtains or banners would for a variety of sound-absorption options. Four chambers within the hall can also be adjusted. When closed they lock the sound inside the hall and when opened, the sound is filtered back into the room slowly. The end result of this incredible performance arts venue is complete and absolute control over the sound quality and depth.
