Caifanes has been used as a term to describe the well-known Mexican Pachuco, or zoot-suiter, a delinquent, or an outsider. Originally called The Unusual Images of Aurora, Caifanes was a band that consisted of Saul Hernandez, Alfonso Andre, and Alejandro Marcovich. Originally the band's only intention was to play as a side project, for fun. But as their music gained popularity the members began to take it seriously. In 1986 the original group broke up and Saul and Alfonso created a new band, what is today known as Caifanes, and recruited more members.
During their first show on April 11, 1987 at the Rockotitlan, Caifanes sold the venue out with fans outside. As they gained popularity throughout Mexico City they soon had a niche as the ant-corporate pop/rock and during the 1980's they soon reigned over Mexican radio and television. By 1989 Caifanes had released their first album and were working on a second album in NY City. The Little Devil was released in 1990 and with it came a signature guitar sound that soon became synonymous with Caifanes and Alejandro Marcovich. It was an era of Mexican rock where other bands such as Mana, Fobia, Maldita Vecinidad, La Lupita, and Café Tacuba all helped to launch this genre of music to the forefront.
To date Caifanes has released four studio albums, the last of which was in 1994. Not long after their last album Caifanes played their final show. Members of the band were at odds and legal disagreements ensued. It has been over sixteen years since Caifanes took to the stage but at the end of 2010 Caifanes announced on Twitter that they would be reuniting for the Vive Latino fest and Coachella 2011 thus began the re-launching of their musical careers. Now you can see this iconic 90's rock group live at the Nokia Theatre LA Live on October 14, 2011.
