American Music Awards Facts and Information:
The American Music Awards have been held annually since Dick Clark came up with the idea in 1973. Originally designed to be in direct competition with the Grammy's, the AMA Awards are considered one of the “Big Three” awards shows, alongside the Grammy's and the Billboard Music Awards. The only difference between the American Music Awards and the other two is the AMA's lack of a category for Best Single/Record.
The first year the American Music Awards were ever held, pop superstar Michael Jackson, Donny Osmond, Rodney Allen Rippy and Ricky Segall. To date, no artist has won more American Music Awards than Alabama , who has won 22-music awards, and no solo artist has won more than Whitney Houston, with twenty awards.
