Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena Facts and Information
The Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena opened July 4, 1959 by Richard M. Nixon. It has been host to many incredible professional and collegiate teams in its history. From 1960 to 1967, it was home for the Los Angeles Lakers, and then hosted professional basketball again from 1984 until 1999 with the Clippers. The NHL Kings used the Sports Arena for their first season in 1967. Then, long-time rivals the Bruins and the Trojans both made their homes at the Arena simultaneously and consecutively; the Bruins basketball played their home games there from 1960-1965, and the Trojans basketball outlasted them by playing from 1959, it's opening year, until 2006.
Other teams have also graced the doors of the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, such as the Los Angeles Stars, the 1984 Summer Olympic Boxing events, and the Los Angeles Cobras of the American Football League. Since there are no longer esteemed collegiate or professional teams it can claim, the Arena has been used primarily for political and musical events. It recently completed a major remodel to bring it up to speed with other popular venues of today. These changes include better team rooms, official rooms, dressing rooms, and meeting rooms. Full amenities now include more concession stands, a better ticket booth as well as two portable booths, and an increased quality in handicap accessibility. Come visit the Los Angeles Sports Arena today to appreciate these new modifications along side its deeply-rooted Los Angeles history.
