Jon Bon Jovi Biography:
After a brief break from recording & touring, 1 of the great pop/rock bands of the '90s returns to the stage. Bon Jovi the rock band from New Jersey feat. Jon Bon Jovi (John Francis Bongiovi Jr/vocals) Richie Sambora (Richard Stephen Sambora/guitar), David Bryan (David Rashbaum/keyboards), Alec John Such (bass), & Tico Torres (drums). John Bongiovi, met David Bryan at Sayreville High School, where the 2 shared a mutual interest in rock music. They would soon join 8 other musicians in the R&B cover band “Atlantic City Expressway”. John found himself charming his way into the Power Station recording studios, which was owned by his cousin Tony, John performed studio tasks for about 2 years before rocker Billy Squier agreed to help produce his 1rst demo tape. The track, "Runaway", appeared on a local artist compilation album received spins on some local radio stations. In July of 1983, Bon Jovi signed his 1rst recording contract with the record label PolyGram Records. PolyGram toyed with the name, throwing out monikers like "Victor" then "Johnny Lightening", before Shulman anglicized John Bongiovi's name to Bon Jovi. Their self-titled debut came out January 21, 1984.
Filled with the groups now signature power ballads & hooked-filled tunes underscored by soaring guitar riffs & well crafted melodies, the album went gold (sales of over 500,000). The album was a rugged soulful collection of songs about how tough it is being a teenager. Buoyed by the renewed success of "Runaway", & backed by the follow-up single "She Don't Know Me". Jon Bon. Their debut album preceded a headline tour & support slots for bands like the Scorpions, Kiss, & Whitesnake. Their 2nd album, 7800 Degrees Fahrenheit, was greeted with much cynicism by the press, which was already hostile towards the band for their image & formularized heavy/rock. Jovi's looks attracted immediate attention for the band, as he turned down the lucrative lead role in the dance movie “Footloose” in order to concentrate on the bands music. Bon Jovi released their follow/up album, 7800 Farenheit, in April 1985 which included the hit singles "Only Lonely" & "Silent Night", it sold equally to its predecessor. Bon jovi build up a considerable fan base which appreciated the band's anthemic songs & powerful stage presence. Clearly, Bon Jovi was poised on the edge of greatness.
Bon Jovi responded back in style with the release of the album Slippery When Wet, the band's 3 rd album, it was a break trough. Powered by songs like "Wanted Dead or Alive" & "Livin' on a Prayer", the LP went gold & platinum simultaneously within 6 weeks of being release. By April 1987, Slippery When Wet had sold over 7 million copies worldwide. The world ate & slept Bon Jovi, as the band won the American Music Award & People's Choice Awards for Band Of The Year, & MTV gave Bon Jovi a Best Performance Award for their video "Livin' on a Prayer". By the time the Slippery Tour finished on October 17 th, 1987, the album had sold over 14 million copies, putting Bon jovi in the same league of album successes as Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.
When questioned on American Idol, Jon Bon Jovi stated that the band would embark on a tour beginning in January, after playing ten dates in New Jersey in the fall. According to Richie Sambora this tour would be a greatest hits tour, so it would not be in direct support of Lost Highway. However, in October 2007 the band announced the Lost Highway Tour. Starting with the New Jersey gigs, the band are touring Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the U.S. and then Europe, finishing in the summer. In early December 2007 the band took time off from their Canadian tour to become the first ever American band to headline the Royal Variety Performance in Liverpool, England, performing in front of the Queen herself.[7] In February 2008 Bon Jovi will start their American tour with a performance at the halftime show of Super Bowl XLII.[
