Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction Background and History:
Nine Inch Nails was founded in 1988 by Trent Reznor. Initially based in Cleveland , Ohio , Reznor is known for creating the brilliant lyrics and music and hiring a band to tour with him, though no one but him has ever been recognized as an official member. His penchant for doing everything on his own is often recognized as leaning toward music in the same breath as artists such as Prince.

To date Nine Inch Nails has released eight studio albums, earning him 12 Grammy nominations and two wins. Trent Reznor has been cited as influencing many artists, including Marilyn Manson. He has been analogized to artists such as Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground, Kiss, and many more; both for his originality and his fearlessness.

Jane's Addiction was founded in 1985 and has taken several highly publicized breaks on and off. They were one of the first groups to create commercially recognized alternative music and in spite of their many years of activity, have only released three studio albums. Their music is influenced by goth, metal, and punk, giving way to their signature sound.
