Dodger Vs Yankees History:
There is perhaps no interleague series more connected to history than a matchup between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers. The two clubs have met eleven times in the World Series, more than any other clubs from the American and National Leagues. All eleven World Series matchups took place in a forty-year span from 1941 to 1981. The two clubs have not met in the World Series since. Unfortunately for Dodgers fans the Yankees have gotten the best of the Dodgers in their World Series meetings, winning eight of the eleven matchups, including the first five. After five Yankees victories over the Dodgers in a span from 1941 to 1953 the Dodgers finally got the best of the Yankees to win the 1955 World Series four games to three. The 1955 win would be the only Dodgers World Series victory over the Yankees during the time both clubs called New York home. The 1955 victory was sealed by Dodgers great Johnny Podres who pitched two complete game victories in the series including a shutout in game seven.

Since the Dodgers move west in 1958 there have been four World Series matchups between the two clubs, with the teams splitting them. In their first World Series victory over the Yankees as residents of LA the Dodgers swept the Yankees 4-0 behind their dominant 1-2 combination of Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. The two clubs would not meet again in the World Series until the late seventies when they faced off in both 1977 and 1978 with the Yankees winning both times. In 1977 Reggie Jackson had one of the greatest and most memorable performances in baseball history, hitting three home runs in World Series Game six off of three different Dodgers pitchers. Each home run happened on the first pitch of the at bat. With his Game 5 first-pitch homer and his four-pitch walk in the second inning of Game 6, Jackson homered on his last four swings of the bat in the Series, each off a different Dodger pitcher. In 1

In 1981 the Dodgers would avenge their 1977 and 1978 losses and defeat the Yankees in the World Series 4-2. The Dodgers would become the last team to win the World Series after losing the first two games on the road. 1981 was the year of "Fernandomania" and the Dodgers would roar back to win the last four games behind solid pitching performances from Fernando Valenzuela, Steve Howe, Burt Hooten and Jerry Ruess.
