Dodgers Vs Tigers
The Dodgers kick off interleague play in 2014 when they host the Detroit Tigers for a two-game April series at Dodger Stadium. After a decade where they were one of the worst teams in baseball the Detroit Tigers franchise has rebounded to become one of the elite organizations in baseball. Detroit, the oldest continuous one-name, one-city franchise in the American League, have won four World Series titles and eleven American League Pennants. After setting the record for the most losses in American League history in 2003 the Tigers have rebuilt the franchise, including two visits to the World Series in the past eight seasons.
The Tigers are led by Miguel Cabrera who became the first person to win the Triple Crown in forty-five seasons in 2012. Detroit Tigers players have now won three consecutive American League MVP's, with Justin Verlander winning in 2011 and Cabrera winning in 2012 and 2013. The Tigers return to prominence was guided by Jim Leyland, long one of the most respected managers in all of Major League Baseball. Leyland retired after the 2013 season, handing the reins over to Brad Ausmus. The Tigers made some adjustments to the roster during the 2013 offseason, the most prominent move being the trading of Prince Fielder to the Texas Rangers for All Star second baseman Ian Kinsler. Kinsler will join a Tigers team that features perhaps the best starting pitching combination in the American League in Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer. To shore up the bullpen the Tigers acquired Joe Nathan from the Texas Rangers in the offseason. The former Rangers and Twins closer has been one of the best finishers in the game during the past ten seasons.
