Dodgers Vs Reds
The Cincinnati Reds are the oldest professional baseball franchise in major league baseball, tracing their history back to 1869. The Reds became a charter member of the American Association in 1882 and joined the National League in 1890. During their history the Reds have won five World Series, nine National League Pennants and ten division titles. They've been a member of the National League Central since 1994. The Cincinnati Reds are perhaps best known for the Big Red Machine era of the 1970's. From the time Sparky Anderson took over as manager in 1970 the Reds were the dominant team in the National League, winning two World Series during that span. Cincinnati was led by a number of Hall of Fame players including the all-time hits leader Pete Rose, arguably the greatest catcher in baseball history Johnny Bench, and Hall of Famers Joe Morgan, Tony Perez and Dave Concepcion. The Reds run included an incredible 102-win 1974 season in which they finished in second place to Tommy Lasorda's Dodgers. After finally getting over the hump and besting the Dodgers in the division the Reds won consecutive World Series titles in 1975 and 1976.
The current incarnation of the Reds is led by Joey Votto, one of the top players in all of baseball. The Canadian slugger is a four-time All Star and winner of the 2010 National League MVP. Votto has led the National League in on base percentage each of the past four seasons. Votto is joined in the lineup by veteran second baseman Brandon Phillips, a four-time All Star and four-time Gold Glove winner. Phillips has amazingly hit 18 home runs each of the past four seasons. Phillips had 103 RBI's, a career high, in 2013.
