Dodgers Vs Cubs History:
The Dodgers and Cubs have been in the National League for over one-hundred years but have only met one time in the postseason. This is partly due to the fact that the divisional playoff rounds didn't exist until 1969, but also due to the fact that the Dodgers haven't had a great deal of success in the postseason over the years. Lack of history aside the Cubs have a passionate national following due to a generation of fans growing up watching them on WGN and a historic home ballpark in Wrigley Field. Under new management and ownership once again the Cubs are looking to secure money for a major project to rebuild Wrigley Field. General Manager Theo Epstein is using the strategies he employed as the Red Sox GM to lead them to multiple World Series titles.
Even with the lack of success over the years the Cubs have certainly had patches of greatness and multiple postseason appearances since the days of Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandberg and Rick Sutcliffe in the 1980s. Few passionate baseball fans will forget the famous Steve Bartman play in the 2003 NLCS where the Cubs would subsequently go on to lose the series. Chicago Cubs fans are as loyal as any group in baseball and due to the Cubs enormous national following Cubs versus Dodgers games at Dodgers Stadium are always a spirited affair.
With all the Dodgers success and eleven World Series titles an amazing fact about the two teams is that heading into the 2013 season the Dodgers and Cubs are amazingly nearly tied in their all time matchup. In 1903 games between the two clubs over the 110 years the Dodgers lead the all time series by 2 games, 947-945. In over 1900 games and 100 years the Cubs have scored a total of 41 more runs than the Dodgers (7946 to 7905).
