The Arlington Theatre Los Angeles used to be known as Arlington Hotel. Built in 1876, it heralded the era of commercial tourism in Santa Barbara . The hotel was destroyed by an earthquake and the Arlington Theater Los Angeles was built in its place, along with many other buildings that were constructed after the earthquake.
Initially, the theater opened as a movie house for Fox West Coast Theatres in 1930 and remained so until 1970. Later it was expanded and restored to its original colonial Mission style and is now popular as the largest performing arts venue in Santa Barbara . Between the balcony and the main theater floor, the Los Angeles Arlington Theatre boasts of a seating capacity for 2000 people.
The auditorium of the Los Angeles Arlington Theater is designed to resemble an outdoor plaza of a Spanish town belonging to the colonial era. The three dimensional structures on the walls and the high ceilings give you the feel of a star lit sky. The marble fountain in the theater adds to the charm.
