About Les Misérables Ahmanson Theater Tickets:
Les Misérables, now in its 26 th year, is the world's longest-running musical and Broadway's 3 rd longest-running show. Les Misérables just had its 10,000 performance and is the first show to have three productions running simultaneously in the same city; it is in London 's Barbican Centre, London 's West End, and in London 's O2 Arena for a special concert version. The stageplay is based on an 1862 novel by Victor Hugo and set in early nineteenth-century France . It follows the lives of several characters, including prostitutes, factory workers, student revolutionaries and more. The score features the infamous “I Dreamed a Dream”, which is sung in the first act of this eight-time Tony Award-winning show. Les Misérables begins in a prison where prisoner Jean Valjean is released on parole. After 19 years in prison, Jean gets into trouble immediately and is caught stealing from a bishop. When the police catch Jean, the bishop lies to save him from returning to prison and helps him to start a new life.
Now Jean has a new identity, Monsieur Madeleine, he is wealthy and a mayor. Inside the factory, one of the workers, Fantine, has a fight with the foreman, who fires her. The rest of the stageplay follows Fantine's descent into prostitution and Monsieur Madeliene's attempt at rescuing her from her fate. Jean Valjean's true identity is discovered and he put on trial to return to prison. Fantine is gravely ill and Jean escapes to be by her side. In his chance at redemption, Jean promises FAntine that he will care for her illegitimate daughter, Cosette, who is being abused by the Innkeeper and his wife that are caring for her. Jean pays the Innkeeper and rescues Cosette and takes her away to raise her as his own daughter. The story picks up nine years later when Paris is in upheaval because the only man in the government who shows mercy to the poor, General Lamarque, is ill and may soon die. Jean's daughter, Cosette has fallen in love with Marius; a student revolutionist who is heavily involved in what he believes is an impending revolution. Ultimately, Jean saves Marius' life, who in turn takes Cosette to be with him as Jean is falsely accused and exiled one last time. Les Misérables is a tragic love story about redemption and the heavy hand of fate. Les Misérables is a classic musical that is a must-see for anyone who loves the theater!
