The Segerstrom Family was a supporter of the arts, and favored Redfield’s suggestion, prompting them to donate the location as the site of the Segerstrom Hall-O.C. Center. It was decided that the project is to be a strictly private venture, neither soliciting nor accepting government funding. The Segerstrom Hall-O.C. Center is the first facility of such scope to do so. The facility was designed by Charles Lawrence, and acoustics was designed by a talented team comprised of Dr. A. Harold Marshall from Auckland, New Zealand, Dennis Paoletti from San Francisco and Jerald R. Hyde from St. Helena. Construction of the Segerstrom Hall-O.C. Center began on the 7th of July, 1983.

The product of the community’s plan eventually took fruition on the 29th of September, 1986, with the successful opening of the Segerstrom Hall.
