Angel Stadium Facts and Information

The Los Angeles Angel Stadium of Anaheim opened on April 19, 1966, and it has undergone many name changes and millions of dollars of upgrades since. Initially called the Anaheim Stadium, the Angel Stadium of Anaheim spans 140 acres. With a seating capacity of 45,000, the Los Angeles Angels Stadium is generously accommodating to Los Angeles ' nearly 22 million citizens.

Its original construction cost $24 million. In 1966 that was a hefty undertaking. Then, in 1996, the city of Anaheim partnered with the Angels in a combined $128 million overhaul that would contract the Angels to remain in Los Angeles until 2018. The Anaheim Stadium was re-named to the Edison International field. It was then the Angels changed their name to the Anaheim Angels. The city provided an additional 12,500 parking spaces and scaled back the “Big A” t, as the field is often referred to, to include a football field next to it.

In 2003 the Big A changed its name yet again to the Angel Stadium of Anaheim , and then in 2005, the Anaheim Angels reverted back to simply being called The Angels.

The Anaheim Angel Stadium actually has a scientifically interesting theory behind its construction. The dimensions of the Anaheim Stadium are 333 feet instead of the standard 330. The architect tried to base the Angel Stadium of Anaheim dimensions on the balance of air density during the majority of games, and the pitcher and the hitter. Any logical brain would not think that an extra 3 feet of Big A blue turf could make much of a difference, but the strange dimensions have survived the years.
