Ahmanson Theatre Facts and Information

The Ahmanson Theatre

Theatre is perhaps one of the most refined branches among all public performances. A play is one of the best testament to man’s artistic achievements and a showcase to the richness of our diverse cultures. Theatre is also where talented playwrights’ works of art are given life, allowing audiences of the play to let their imaginations take flight. Of course, plays need hollowed sanctums to host these colorful performances, and one such place is Los Angeles’ Ahmanson Theatre.

The Ahmanson Theatre is one of the four main venues of the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County which can be found at Grand Avenue in downtown LA. The Ahmanson Theatre was constructed on the 9th of March, 1962 and featured the play More Stately Mansions by Eugene O’Neillon its opening day on the 12th of April, 1967. The debut performance of the Ahmanson Theatre featured Ingrid Bergman, Arthur Hill, and Colleen Dewhurst on the lead roles. Since then, the Ahmanson Theatre hosted a variety of dramas, comedies, musicals, and revivals of classics.

The Ahmanson Theater played host to many talents in show business. Renowned thespians such as Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Rex Harrison, James Earl Jones, Lynn Redgrave and Cherry Jones graced the stage of the Ahmanson Theatre with their presence. The Ahmanson Theater is currently helmed by Michael Ritchie. In 1994, The Ahmanson Theatre underwent renovations and now has a seating capacity ranging from 1,400 to 2,000 depending on the preferred configuration.
