Bon Jovi at MGM Grand Las Vegas

After a brief rest from recording & touring, 1 of the great rock bands of the '90s, Bon Jovi, returned to the stage .This rock band from New Jersey, is fronted by Jon Bon Jovi (John Francis Bongiovi Jr/vocals) along with his co-founders, Richie Sambora (Richard Stephen Sambora/guitar), David Bryan (David Rashbaum/keyboards), Alec John Such (bass), & Tico Torres (drums). Bongiovi, met Bryan at Sayreville High School, where they shared a mutual interest in rock music. They soon joined 8 other musicians in the R&B cover band “Atlantic City Expressway”. Charming his way into the Power Station recording studios, which was owned by his cousin Tony, John performed menial tasks for 2 years before Billy Squier agreed to help produce his demo tape. One track, "Runaway", which appeared on a local artist compilation album was played on some local radio stations.

By July of 1983, Bon Jovi had signed a recording contract with PolyGram Records & support slots with ZZ Top & Eddie Money, the latter at Madison Square Garden in NY. Jon Bon Jovi's looks attracted immediate attention for the band, & he turned down the lucrative lead role in the dance movie “Footloose” in order to concentrate on the bands music. Their debut album preceded a headline tour & support slots for bands like the Scorpions, Kiss, & Whitesnake. Their 2nd album, 7800 Degrees Fahrenheit, was greeted with much cynicism by the press, which was already hostile towards the band for their image & formularized heavy/rock. Bon Jovi responded back in style with the release of the album “Slippery When Wet” which would be the biggest selling rock album of 87, although it originally appeared in August 1986. Collaborating with songwriter Desmond Child, for 3 of its tracks - "Livin' On A Prayer", "You Give Love A Bad Name" & "Wanted Dead Or Alive” - were all European & US hits.
