Bruce Springsteen Information

Along with Madonna & Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen stands as 1 of the largest popular music icons of the 1980s. By the time he rose to international superstardom in the 1980s, Bruce was already a well established recording artist.

Bruce Springsteen was born in Freehold, New Jersey, on September 23 rd, 1949. Bruce grew up in a “middle class family" where he 1rst started playing around with the guitar in High School. After graduating he moved to New York to try & break into the Folk Music scene. After getting nowhere he returned to Asbury Park, N.J. reluctantly & hooked up with a number of different bands. With such bands as Rogues & Dr. Zoom & the Sonic Boom, Springsteen found himself a place with the E-Street Band, in which he remained until 1989. Bruce Springsteen released his 1rst album in 1973, but it was his 2nd album, The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle in 1974 that led a rock critic to call him "the future of rock'n'roll." 1 year later Springsteen released Born to Run to critical & popular success & thus a bona fide rock star nicknamed "The Boss" was born. Bruce break came after a tour with the band Chicago as Springsteen captivated the audiences in these live shows, The title song "Thunder Road’ received continuous air play on the radio that brought the album to the top 5. The album received much praise leading Springsteen to be dubbed the "Savior of Rock & Roll". Newspapers & Magazines were swarming to get Bruce to appear in their publications. The 1978 album “Darkness on the Edge of Town” was released, marking the 1rst of Springsteen's darker albums. Following this with the album The River, in 1980 which quickly went platinum in the US & established Springsteen as a star.

The Boss most famous release “Born in the U.S.A” came out in 1984. This pop/rock style arena album sold over 20 million copies which were followed by a massive 2 year long worldwide tour. The new working class image of Born in the U.S.A. made Bruce an international superstar. "The Boss" was born again! Springsteen released the song "Streets of Philadelphia" for the movie " Philadelphia" which won him a Grammy award & an Oscar for "Best Song". With his career in full/mode, Springsteen released a "Greatest Hits" album which seen the now reunited E-Street Band & all new tracks. After 30 long years Bruce is still going strong, currently touring internationally & we can only wait & see what he will do next.
