While they have never won a Stanley Cup or any other high prizes in the hockey world, the Los Angeles Kings have come close a number of times. In the 1992-1993 years, they managed to advance to the finals, before losing to the Montreal Canadiens in a five-game series. After this that success has not been replicated, unfortunately, but loyal fans keep watching and waiting, knowing that the Kings will have their day in court soon enough.

The team colors were originally blue and gold, with a crown logo on their jerseys. This changed in 1988 when a wealthy coin collector named Bruce McNall bought out the team and decided they needed a major upgrade in reputation. He began by changing their colors to silver and black, for a more serious appearance and to distance them from their former losing record. He also achieved quite the coup in the world of professional hockey by landing Wayne Gretzky from Canada, known as one of the foremost players in the world. This gave the Los Angeles Kings a whole new level of credibility and showed that they were now a team to contend with. The golden age for the Kings was this period from 1988-1998.

After Wayne Gretzky was traded to another team in 1996, looking for greater success elsewhere, this began another new era for the Los Angeles Kings. Their move to the Staples Center in 1999, with its luxury suites and state-of-the-art design, showed that they were still a team to be taken seriously, with or without Gretzky. With new players like Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille, the Kings continued to achieve moderate success. They remain at the Staples Center to this day, representing Los Angeles with pride, which is appreciated by their extremely devoted fans. Their new coach, Terry Murray, represents renewed hopes for another winning streak, potentially this upcoming season.
