Tom Jones is one of the most popular vocalists to emerge from the British Invasion. Though the younger generation may not remember the crazy stage antics of Tom Jones back in his rise on the early sixties- tight pants and balloon-sized shirts were one of his token quirks. Now a days sexuality is almost a given in the music industry, but Tom Jones was definitely a pioneer of this with his sexuality back in the day, when it was still quite taboo. Now, and the ripe age of 67, Tom Jones is still roaring and back at it in his highly anticipated 2008 concert.
It all started back in 1963 when Tom Jones became the lead for Tommy Scott and The Senators, which was a local beat group that became quite locally popular in South Wales, United Kingdom. They started laying down track after track, tallying in at seven total, and then Tom Jones and The Senators started looking to get a record deal. This came with no such luck for Jones or his band mates. It wasn't until the release of It's Not Unusual that the group started to get noticed.
The Senators then returned to their home ground of South Wales to play in smaller venues and bars, and that is when Tom Jones was noticed by London manager Gordon Mills, who saw what the world was soon to see in Tom Jones and took him back to London. This is where Mills gave Tom Jones his name, which only furthered his appeal that much more. This was the beginning of it all for the solo style of Tom Jones as we know and love him today.
