The Long Winters Concert tickets and Tours The Long Winters Biography:

“Tower likes to fall and cream likes to spoil
everything living tries to get back to the soil
and what seems right and what's made for you
false prophecy doesn't mean prophecies are true”…

The Long Winters band is a strong force of incredible songs and music.  The Long Winters is an American indie pop, alternative, college rock band.

The present members of The Long Winters consist of John Roderick on guitar and vocals, Nabil Ayers on percussion, Eric Corson on bass and Jonathan Rothman on keyboards.  The former members on the other hand consist of Sean Nelson on keyboards and vocals, Chris Caniglia on keyboards and vocals, Michael Shilling on percussion, Michael Schorr on percussion, Darren Loucas on keyboards and guitar and Mike Squires on guitars and keyboards.

John Roderick was raised in the little city of Anchorage, Alaska.  John has a passion in creating records and playing music.  John, as stated in the band’s website, describes himself as a little bit of a dictator as well as has a sharp tongue.  He was able to find many talented and skilled musicians to be a part of his band, The Long Winters.

A member of The Long Winters came from Salt Lake City, Utah, by the name of Nabil Ayers.  Nabil is the newest member of the Long Winters, but has played in many Seattle bands over the years including the Lemons, Micro Mini and Alien Crime Syndicate.  Nabil is an impressive drummer and has been called “nicest man in Seattle rock.”  Nabil is also the co-owner of Sonic Boom Records, a hipster music chain, and he puts out records himself on his Control Group record label.

Kent, Washington is the place where Eric Corson grew up.  Eric joined The Long Winters by 2001 after the recording of The Worst You Can Do is Harm.  Having learned all The Long Winters songs on a five-string acoustic guitar, Eric showed up to his first audition fresh off an Alaskan fishing boat. Eric Corson is considered as the heart and soul of the band of The Long Winters.

Jonathan Rothman is the newest member of The Long Winters; a new guitarist and keyboardist.

The founding member of The Long Winters is Sean Nelson better known as the singer of late-nineties alt-rock heroes Harvey Danger.  Sean acted as an adviser throughout much of the first two years of the band.  He was instrumental in the recording of the first record, The Worst You Can Do is Harm.  Sean is presently a corporate sell-out at the Microsoft Corporation.  Sean started threatening to leave The Long Winters immediately upon joining the band.

Signing on as a keyboardist, Chris Caniglia was the first member of The Long Winters touring band, after the completion of the first record, moving from New York to Seattle in the process.  Chris was widely credited with having held the whole unit together during the tumultuous first few tours.  Presently, Chris is teaching “Intro to Improv” at the People’s Improv Theater; he can be found performing improve and stand-up, and waiting tables, in the Big Apple.

The original drummer of The Long Winters was Michael Shilling. Michael has now gone straight and is in the graduate writing program at Ann Harbor.  Michael, a real stabilizing influence in the early years, hence inspired a real feeling of community among the rest of The Long Winters.  His aggressive drumming intensely ‘rockified’ the show and started the tradition of the live performances being interpretations of their CD’s.  The low pay and the rigors of touring, specifically in Europe, convinced him to leave the band by the early 2004.

Michael Schorr was the drummer of Death Cab for Cutie. When The Long Winters met Michael, they were impressed that he was both a very good drummer and a very difficult and dangerous-seeming person.  After he left DCFC, the band of The Long Winters followed his exploits and noted with some satisfaction that he was a big fan of progressive rock.  He brought a new and overwhelming commitment to rhythmic force and nearly doubled the number of competent drivers in the band, in his short tenure with The Long Winters.

An excellent guitarist and a multi-instrumentalist, by the name of Darren Loucas,  joined The Long Winters for the Nada Surf tour by the early spring of the year 2004.  Darren plays guitar in different side-projects with Sean Nelson and Bill Herzog, a Sweet Hereafter bassist, including “’Tommy’ all the way through,” their recent performance of the entire Who record front to back.  Darren was also awarded as “Best Blues Guitarist,” from the Northwest Blues Society.

Mike Squires was raised in the rural backwater of Granite Falls, Washington.  He was a longtime Seattle musician who has played guitar and bass in different bands.  Mike brings to The Long Winters his Vegas-style showmanship and his crack Marine Corps typing-pool discipline.  When he recorded guitar and bass parts on the song Scent of Lime, Mike’s association with The Long Winters goes back, but due to the very strict conditions of his parole he was unable to tour with The Long Winters before now.

The Long Winters are the result of John Rodericks’ traveling the globe.  The Long Winters was born when John traveled back to Seattle and was joined by Chris Caniglia, Michael Shilling and Eric Corson.  The debut album, The Worst You Can Do Is Harm, was issued on Barsuk Records by spring of 2002.  The Long Winters released When I Pretended to Fall the next spring.  Following in the fall of 2005, The Ultimatum EP was produced by Tucker Martine, Eyvind Kang, Wayne Horvitz and Laura Veirs.
