Born in Chicago Illinois on February 16 th , 1982 to the name Wasalu Muhammad Jaco- the artist who now goes by Lupe Fiasco was not born from the worm with the idea that he would be such a hip hop and rap success story like he has grown to be. His father, an engineer, drummer, karate teacher, and owner of many different army surplus stores along with Lupe Fiasco's mother, a gourmet chef, Fiasco was the fifth child of all of the nine brother and sisters in his family.
It is funny to think that there was a time when little Lupe Fiasco was not at all into the hip hop and rap scene or anything about it. It was when he listened to his father's records by N.W.A. that Lupe felt like they were too vulgar and in bad taste. Call him an angel if it is so fitting, but whatever you call him it was Nas and his It Was Written album in 1996 that Lupe Fiasco was listening to when he fell in love with the hip-hop scene.
After he got his name figured out and all of that, it was at the age of 19 that Lupe Fiasco signed his first deal with Epic Records when he was in the group Da Pak. Da Pak didn't last long, and called it quits after their first single. It wasn't that much later that Fiasco soon signed with Arista Records. It was unfortunate timing that the companies CEO L.A. Reid was fired that dropped Fiasco from his deal as well. But that didn't bring him down, because he has seen a lot of good for his career when he was with Arista. He was asked by the epic rapper Jay-Z to sign on with Roc-A-Fella records, but Lupe Fiasco had already started upon a record label of his own. Either way, the fact that Jay-Z called him a "breath of fresh air", he was bound to succeed with anything he touched. And he did- and continues to do so.
Soon Lupe Fiasco signed with Atlantic Records and from then on he has sky-rocked and features with some of the hottest artist in the scene today such as Kanye West on "Touch The Sky". Fiasco soon teamed with Jay-Z on his side to come out with his first debut album, Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor . It was a hit from coast to coast, and Fiasco was nominated for three Grammys as well as the nice number one list winner of GQ 's "Breakout Man of the Year".
Lupe Fiasco is a rare type of art and soul and all that goes into the magic and talent of him and all of his creations that definitely is not seen, and probably never as been seen before on the hip hop scene. Seeing him live as he tours on his 2008 Concert Tour will be an experience of a lifetime that you don't wan to miss. Stay in the know for all ticket information as it becomes available for your seats.
