Yet, being committed didn't stop James Taylor from making his music and playing his guitar. He graduated high school in the hospital, left his first group, and banned together with Kortchmar and Joel O'Brien to become the Flying Machine. James Taylor and his friends newly founded band was soon signed my Rainy Day Records, but did not reach much success.

After recovering from it all, James Taylor was signed by Warner Bros. Records in the 70's and his second album, Sweet baby James, was a hit. James saw much success in the 70's, but with the 80's came more problems with drugs. James Taylor married for a second time, began touring quite often, and in 1998 his album Hourglass won a Grammy for Best Pop Album.
In 2001, James Taylor married again to Caroline Smedvig, to which they now have twin sons in

. October Roads was a massive hit, and James Taylor became very active in environmental causes, as well as participating in the 2004 "Vote for Change" tour, fully supporting the causes of John Kerry.
