Bruno Mars is the stage name of a man named Peter Gene Hernandez who was born on October 8, 1985. He is an American singer and songwriter that was raised in Honolulu by a family of musicians. He began exploring music at a very young age by performing in various musical venues in his hometown throughout his entire childhood. He decided to move to Los Angeles, California after graduating from high school in order to pursue a career in music.
His first attempt in the music record was an unsuccessful attempt with Motown Records. However, things began to turn around for Mars when he signed with Atlantic Records in 2009. His successful career officially began in the late 2000's when he started writing successful songs for other popular artists such as Flo Rida, Brandy, Travie McCoy, and K'Naan. After several successful years as a pop song writer, Mars finally branched out as a singer when he wrote the 2010 hit titled, "Nothin' on You." It was written for the Atlantic Records rapper B.O.B., but the record label decided to use Mars in the chorus of the song. After the extreme success of that song, Mars released his first solo several months later. His single titled, "Just the Way You Are," was at the top of the Billboard singles in no time. In 2011, Bruno Mars had also received several Grammy Award nominations including one for Album of the Year. While he did go home empty handed, he did give a career boosting performance at the Grammy Award ceremony in February of 2012.
