Blue October's subjects with themes on love, forgiveness, betrayal, mental depression, drug use and cathartic transcendence as well as the band's impressive live shows have made them build up a strong and remarkable music, following five albums through Universal Records. The Answers, as Blue October's debut album, was released by 1998. For their August 2000 major label debut, Consent To Treatment, Blue October signed to Universal Records. The band released History for Sale by July 2003 as they signed with Brando Records. As Calling You, which was also on the American Wedding soundtrack, started picking up airplay in Dallas and other Texas cities, Universal Records offered to re-sign the band. Blue October then decided to return to the label, after considering quite a lot of offers from other major labels. They considered Universal Records as a team of people who knew, understood and loved them. Hate Me, a song from the band's 2006 album Foiled, by songwriter Justin Furstenfeld, was a song portraying a man's selfishness in a relationship, coming to terms with it as well as admitting the mistakes. A double live CD/DVD, Argue with a Tree, released in February 2005, captured the symbolic live relationship between the band and its fans. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, a hopefulness which comes out in the album's final two songs, the sweet melody of Everlasting Friend as well as the peaceful love of 18th Floor Balcony, for which Hudson wrote the music. There are the people who feel what Blue October feels-depressed, lost, happy and confused. These are the fans, the listeners as well as the loyal friends; people who once are ecstatic and sometimes overwhelmed deep within. They sing and know every word in Blue October's music. They breathe and live the band of Blue October. The band as well as the fans has a bond and connection. Blue October was more accomplished in fine-tuning the way they want things to sound. Blue October is indeed a way of life, a routine with music that is a remedy to feel. Lyrics that are certainly words to live by.

A heartbeat skip, relationship Inside a bubble bath An icing drip below your lip So we undo the math A sudden slip between My pathetic sedatives A real-life script of how Mistakes became our medicine, so Delay the hurtful words Of complicated overcast Please take the message that I'm Picking up my chin at last I said my confidence It gets stronger when you're next to me But we pray from miles away In quest for what we long to be.
