Black Eyed Peas History and Biography:
The Black Eyed Peas have been a highly influential force in both the hip-hop underground scene before they hit it big, and today, on the commercial scene. Across the world Will.I.Am, Fergie. Taboo, and Apl.De.Ap are four of the most recognized talents on stage. With their high-energy performances and fun, flirtatious messages, the music of the Black Eyed Peas has earned them three Grammy's and a total of ten nominations.
Founded in 1995 with Will.I.Am and Apl.De.Ap, the duo signed on to a record label as Atban Klann. However, after the owner of the label died of aids, they switched their name along and their label to Black Eyed Peas, as well as bringing onTaboo. It was not long before the trio had a huge fan following. It took three years, but in 1998 they released their debut album Behind the Front. It put them on the map and was also featured in an Academy Award winning movie, Bulworth. Followed by their second album Bridging the Gap two years later, the album went platinum.
In 2003, after bringing in songstress Fergie to record one song, the group offered her a full-time job. With a fresh new face and voice, Fergie brought to the table the feminine sex appeal the group was lacking, as well as being a role model to many young females across the States. After teaming up with Fergie, Black Eyed Peas released Elephunk, finally making the U.S. Hot 100, coming in at #8.
The album earned the group several Grammy nominations. The single Shut up held the #21 spot in the U.K and #1 in Australia . The song Hey Mama also made the U.S. Hot 100, peaking at #23. It was used for an iPod commercial, cementing the group's status as one of the top music groups in the world. Followed by the iPod commercial was their song Lets Get it Started, used for an NBA Finals commercial that went international.
Bringing on Fergie was possibly the best decision Black Eyed Peas has made yet. After Elephunk came the release of Monkey Business, which earned them more Grammy nominations and also had several singles reach the U.S. Hot 100 list. They were invited to perform the half time show at the Canadian Football League's Grey Cup after the Grammy's that year.
This year the Black Eyed Peas are releasing yet another album, The E.N.D., set to release June 2009, and are getting ready for their tour.
