Born on September 12, 1966 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina as Benjamin Scott Folds, Ben Folds was at the age of nine when his father brought home the first piano Ben Folds ever fell in love with. With the inspiration of artists such as Elton John and Billy Joel, Ben Folds found himself growing more and more in love with music and all that it brought into his life. At Chapel Hill High School in North Carolina, Ben Folds started to get together with other musically inclined guys his age and started up many different band with friends, in which he would specialize as the pianist, bassist or drummer.

Along with good friend and buddy Millard Powers, Ben Folds got together and made the group Majosha. They started releasing small budget records and were playing around their town and at fraternities all over college campuses. It was at a Duke University Battle of the Bands that Majosha ended up winning that many of the fellow music lovers in the audience took note of Ben Folds and Powers and wanted them to play and many of the campus parties. This was definitely a change for Ben Folds, seeing as throughout his early childhood it was quite hard for him to make friends with his father being a carpenter and builder, and Ben having to move quite often. The love of the crowds and pleasure so many had in listening to the talent that Ben Folds had and shared was quite a positive change of pace, and well deserved.

After a good little run, Majosha decided to end things in 1990. Folds went on to form Pots and Pans with Evan Olson and Britt Uzzell. That lasted all of about a month, and then Ben Folds scored a stellar music publishing deal and headed on out to make more music and dreams come true in Nashville, Tennessee. Ben Folds definitely had a good time while in Nashville, where he met many great friends, jammed with some talented performers, and has been stated as saying the quality of living in Nashville was quite nice and comfortable. But soon enough Ben Folds decided to head on over to the University of Miami on a percussion scholarship, and one credit shy of graduating he moved on over to New York where he found Ben Folds Five. From then on, Ben Folds has become a musical genius and one in a million when it comes to his original mix of power pop and rock.
