Aerosmith History and Biography:
Aerosmith has been making rock music for almost forty years; one of the longest-running and most successful rock bands in music history. Formed in Boston , Massachusetts in 1970, Aerosmith began with lead singer Steven Tyler. In the 60's Tyler was a drummer and went through several unremarkable bands. Then in 1969, Steven Tyler met Joe Perry, who was already in a band with Tom Hamilton. Together Perry and Hamilton relocated to Boston and met Joey Kramer. Incidentally, Kramer knew of Steven Tyler already. The following year the four of them formed Aerosmith.

It is said the idea for their name came from Joey Kramer's habit of scribbling the word all over his notebooks before dropping out of the Berklee School of Music. Soon after deciding on a name, the band recruited Ray Tabano, a friend of Steven Tyler's dating back to childhood. It was the decision to add Tabano that expanded Aerosmith to a permanent number of five members. Tabano did not last long with the group, and in 1971 was replaced by another Berklee School of Music alumnus, Brad Whitford. The five they had in 1971 has been the same line-up throughout the bands 40 year history together, save a five-year rough patch between 1979 and 1984.

Aerosmith signed to Columbia Records in 1972 and has never looked back. Today they stand as the most successful rock band of all time, selling 150 million albums worldwide, 67 million of which are out of the United States alone. They have also sold more gold and multi-platinum albums than any other American band. In 2001 Aerosmith was finally honored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now you can see this legendary group live on stage as they get ready for their 2009 schedule of events. With another album expected to release over the summer of 2009, there have been hints that they will perform some of their unreleased songs prior to the album hitting the stands.
