2011 Sugar Bowl Game History:
The Sugar Bowl is the second oldest Bowl game in college football history, coming after only to the Rose Bowl. It has been playing since December 2, 1934, and recently celebrated its 75 th anniversary. The Sugar Bowl now takes place at the Louisiana Superdome, where it has called home since 1976.
The Sugar Bowl is also an active member of the Bowl Championship Series and has hosted the BCS Championship games in both 2000 and 2004. Recent changes to the schedule of the BCS however, make it unlikely the Louisiana Superdome will be hosting the BCS again any time soon.
The Sugar Bowl is typically a match up of the Southeastern Conference. Last year the Allstate Sugar Bowl selected Utah and Alabama where Utah beat Alabama 31 to 17. The Alabama Crimson Tide was a heavily favored team and their loss to the Utah Utes came as an upset for many fans. The Sugar Bowl win made Utah the only undefeated FBS team, as well as becoming the first non-BCS team to win two BCS bowls games.
