The Peach Bowl was founded in 1968 with no conference attachments, and therefore simply invited the best teams available, featuring the ACC and/or the SEC. This resulted in good matchups in some years and not such good matchups in others. Attendance varied accordingly, from a little over 20,000 to nearly 60,000. The move into the Georgia Dome in 1993 from Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium has brought much bigger crowds to the bowl.
Florida and Miami meet on Friday in the 2004 Peach Bowl and yet Berlin can't escape the inconsistency of it all: he started his college career with Florida and will now end it against Florida. "Oh yeah (it's ironic)," he said. "How that worked out, I don't know. I think it's neat that it worked out that way and I'm going to have a lot of fun with it."
Berlin played in twelve games for Florida during the 2000 and 2001 seasons before moving to Miami. Even today, some Florida players say it's strange seeing Berlin in his Orange and Green Miami gear. On Tuesday between news conferences, Berlin kindly greeted numerous Florida players and said he had met with a few others the previous night. Playing Miami, with Berlin, has added conspiracy to the bowl game.
