Raymond James Stadium Background and Information:
The Raymond James Stadium is annual host to the Outback Bowl. It was a replacement for the Houlihan's Stadium on the Al Lopez Field. Since 2006 Raymond James Financial has owned the naming rights to the stadium, signing a contract through 2015. The Raymond James Stadium officially opened in 1998.
As previous hosts of the Outback Bowls, the stadium is primed and ready to go for another landmark event. Built in the fall of 1996, this $168.5 million construction took nearly two years to complete. It debuted with the Buccaneers defeating the Chicago Bears 27-15.
The Stadium seats 65,000 on a regular-game basis, and is equipped to expand another 10,000 seats for larger events. The last Outback Bowl held an attendance of 55,117. Known for its 103 foot steel-and-concrete pirate ship, the canons elicit confetti or soft footballs during touch downs for the Buccaneers, as well as playing the signature Pirates of the Caribbean song “Yo Ho”.
