Remembering Eagle Day
Herman Sidney Eagle Day, a former Ole Miss quarterback, who was inducted into the AT&T Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame in 2003, died Friday at 75.
The Jackson (Miss.) Clarion-Ledger has a nice account of Eagle Day's career. After winning offensive MVP honors in the 1956 Cotton Bowl against TCU, Day went on to a lengthy pro career, primarily as a star in the Canadian Football League.
Blogger Bill Lampton offers 10 life lessons he learned from Eagle Day. Lampton grew up in Day's Mississippi hometown.
Eagle Day played ten years in Canadian Football League with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Toronto Argonauts, and Calgary Stampeders. On the other hand, Day played two years in the National Football League with the Washington Redskins.
Eagle Day remains fifth in all-time CFL playoff completions with 226 and sixth in all-time playoff passing yards with 3,132.
